Sponsored Brands Video Specs

On This Page

Sponsored Brands video (SBV) puts a moving product in the middle of the search results. While Sponsored Products ads sit among rows of white-background thumbnails, a video ad plays automatically as the shopper scrolls, which makes it one of the few ad units that visually interrupts the results page.

That is also why production is where most sellers lose money. Agency-shot, TV-style commercials can easily run into the thousands of dollars, then get rejected by Amazon moderation for a technical violation, or scrolled past because the first three seconds are a logo animation.

Here are Amazon's technical specs, the moderation rules that matter, and a 15-second formula built for how shoppers actually watch these ads.

Amazon Sponsored Brands Video Technical Specs (2026)

These are the requirements from Amazon Ads' Sponsored Brands video specifications. Files that miss them get rejected:

Parameter Requirement Recommended
Aspect ratio 16:9 only 16:9
Dimensions 1280 × 720, 1920 × 1080, or 3840 × 2160 px 1920 × 1080 px
Duration 6 to 45 seconds 20 seconds or less (Amazon's recommendation)
File format MP4 or MOV MP4
Video codec H.264 or H.265 H.264
File size 500 MB or less Keep it well under for faster processing
Frame rate 23.976, 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 29.98, or 30 fps 30 fps
Video bitrate At least 1 Mbps 4 Mbps or higher
Scan type Progressive Progressive
Audio PCM, AAC, or MP3; stereo or mono; at least 96 kbps; at least 44.1 kHz AAC stereo

Plan for sound off: Sponsored Brands videos autoplay muted, and shoppers only hear audio if they tap to unmute. Your video has to tell the whole story with no sound, so use on-screen text for every key point.

The 3-Beat Video Formula (15 Seconds)

The biggest mistake brands make with Amazon video ads is treating them like YouTube or TV commercials: a slow logo reveal, cinematic fade-ins, or a founder introducing the company.

On Amazon the shopper is already in buying mode. If the video doesn't show the product solving a problem in the first two seconds, they have scrolled past. Fifteen seconds fits comfortably inside Amazon's 20-second recommendation:

[0:00 - 0:03] THE HOOK
Product on screen and in motion immediately.
Core problem or main benefit as bold on-screen text.
      │
      ▼
[0:03 - 0:10] THE PROOF & DEMONSTRATION
Show the product working in real time.
Call out 2–3 differentiators with high-contrast text overlays.
      │
      ▼
[0:10 - 0:15] THE RESULT & CALL TO ACTION
Final result, what's in the box, and a clear closing card.
End on a frame that loops cleanly back to the opening shot.

Beat 1: The Hook (0 to 3 seconds)

  • Never open on a black frame, a fade-in, or a standalone logo.
  • Have the product in frame from the very first frame.
  • Put a high-contrast caption on screen that matches the search intent (e.g., "Tired of dull knives that crush tomatoes?").

Beat 2: The Demonstration (3 to 10 seconds)

  • Show the product doing its core job. If it's a garlic press, press a clove. If it's a waterproof phone mount, splash water over it.
  • Use clear, large on-screen text for each point.
  • Keep text and key visuals out of the lower-right corner, which Amazon's guidelines say to avoid because player controls can cover it.

Beat 3: The Result & Loop (10 to 15 seconds)

  • Show the packaging and what's included.
  • Close on a simple card: brand logo, primary benefit, and a plain call to action.
  • Match the lighting of the last frame to the first so the loop doesn't flash.

6 Common Reasons Amazon Rejects Video Ads

Amazon reviews every Sponsored Brands video before it runs. These are the most frequent failure points:

  1. Black, coloured, or blurred bars: Amazon's specs say to avoid horizontal or vertical bars (letterboxing or pillarboxing). The video must fill the full 16:9 frame.
  2. Wrong aspect ratio or resolution: square or vertical edits, or files below 1280 × 720, don't meet the Sponsored Brands video spec.
  3. Text in the lower-right corner: critical text placed where playback controls sit.
  4. Language mismatch: on-screen text and voiceover must match the language of the marketplace you advertise in.
  5. Unsubstantiated claims: "100% guaranteed", "#1 rated", or "doctor recommended" without evidence you can provide on request.
  6. Music you don't have rights to: use licensed or royalty-free audio only.

A seventh issue won't necessarily get you rejected, but it quietly wastes budget: no on-screen text. A video that only works with the voiceover explains nothing to a shopper watching on mute.
